Rag Tag Bags
About the Project
Rag Tag Bags started simply as a birthday gift for my sister. It brings me immense happiness to make and to give, so I wanted to try my hand at making a tote bag to give her as a gift. I did just that! I made a tote bag using an antique-style Singer sewing machine from an old kitchen towel adorned with pepperoncini.
That year, I made bags for all of my friends' birthdays.
Of course, I had to make a bag for myself because I couldn't let my friends have all the fun. One afternoon while strolling a vintage clothing market, I received a kind compliment of my bag from one of the vendors. We got to talking about my bags, how I make them, and whether I sell them.
That conversation led to us partnering up for the next market, with my bags being quite the hot commodity. I have since then become a regular at the vintage markets in Baltimore, selling my tote bags among other wacky wares!
And no, I do not sew on that old Singer anymore. I do still use whatever I can find at thrift stores!
Have a fabric?
I do take commissions! If you have a super cool fabric that you would like to see turned tote, then reach out using the form below. Pricing is based on shipping costs and size/type of fabric.
